30 Chinese Colleges Provide Long-distance Education

Chinese Education Ministry has approved 30 universities and colleges to conduct long-distance education.

The Ministry has also decided to invest 40 million yuan (about 4.8 million US dollars) in college network education.

The aim for the development of modern long-distance education in China is to form an open education network and to build up a life education system, said an official from the Department of Higher Learning of the Ministry.

The Ministry has selected 24 more universities and colleges to launch pilot projects of long-distance education this year in addition to the six institutions of higher learning including Qinghua University, Beijing Posts and Telecommunications University, Zhejiang University and Beijing University, which have already introduced the program.

The 30 colleges can open undergraduate and postgraduate courses and other special courses.
