HKSFC Sets Up Investment Education Website

The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (HKSFC) Thursday launched the Electronic Investor Resources Center, a website aimed to educate investors to help them make informed investment decision.

The launch of the website -- www.hkeirc.org, unlike other financial portals, does not give investment advice. It is dedicated to empowering investors to acquire knowledge on the different aspects of investing.

Targeting at investors with different investing profiles, the center is designed as a virtual library covering a wide range of topics.

It is linked to over 400 websites of regulators, market institutions and Internet content providers.

New links will be added to each section on an ongoing basis in order to keep investors abreast of new developments and references.

HKSFC Chairman Andrew Sheng said the center is a cost effective and easily accessible way for the investors to get hold of timely and good quality information.

"As markets become more complex, investors must evaluate their own risk appetite and understand and appreciate the risks of their investments," he said.

Sheng hoped that more and more investors would take advantage of this new website.

Stephen Ip, secretary for financial services of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, officiated the launch of the center.
