China Urges More Concrete Actions to Help Developing CountriesThe international community should take more concrete actions in promoting developing countries' social development, said Chinese Vice Premier Wen Jiabao, who is attending the United Nations General Assembly's special session on social development.Although progress has been made since the Copenhagen summit on social development in 1995, the international community is still far from realizing all the goals of common development and prosperity, said Wen at his meeting with President of the U.N. General Assembly Theo-Ben Gurirab, foreign minister of Namibia, on Wednesday. During the talks, the Chinese vice premier briefed Gurirab on China's progress in implementing the Copenhagen Declaration and Program of Action. The Chinese government is willing to work with other countries to contribute to the common development and prosperity of the mankind, he affirmed. Gurirab, also elected as president of the current special session, said that China set a good example to other countries in implementing the Copenhagen Declaration and Program of Action. He expressed belief that the current session would not be unworthy of the expectations of people all over the world. Gurirab said that it is particularly important for developing countries to be united and cooperative in the current world situations. He said he hoped that the China-Africa Forum scheduled for October in China would make active contributions to the promotion of the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Africa and to the strengthening of South-South cooperation. |
