Countrywide Monitoring Over Grain Production Mulled in ChinaThe State Grain Reserve Bureau is mulling a nationwide monitoring system over grain production and marketing in China. As is known from a national conference on grain market information recently held, this is to cover all major grain producing areas, cities, marketing price of large grain enterprises and other information in order to offer service to governments at all levels and concerned departments for policy making. It is reported that about 200 information monitoring stations will be set up over grain prices and relevant regulations promulgated by central and local governments in China. High-level departments will be helped with information after analyses of data via computer system and feedback to localities have been made. Shang Qiangmin, vice director of the State Information Center of Cereals and Oils, said that Chinese farmers are tilling on a rather small scale and not well organized; their channels acquiring market information are limited. To establish a sound grain information monitoring and reporting system in China is of utmost significance in promoting the country's grain distribution and its reform of the work of grain purchasing and marketing. It will help greatly strengthen state macro-control on grain production and guide farmers' efforts for a restructuring of grain crop farming. |
