Premier Zhu: Visit Aims at Deepening Sino-German Ties

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji arrived in Berlin Thursday for an official visit to Germany.

In a written statement delivered upon his arrival at Schoenefeld Airport, the Chinese premier said his current visit is aimed at further deepening the development of bilateral ties, enhancing mutual understanding and trust as well as strengthening cooperation.

He said in recent years, Sino-German relations have witnessed an all-round development with closer cooperation in the fields of economy, science and technology, culture, education and environment protection.

"We are satisfied with the good development of bilateral ties and are optimistic over their future prospect," he said.

Zhu noted that both China and Germany are influential countries in the world and are playing important roles in international affairs.

The two countries should strengthen their cooperation and establish a comprehensive partnership which is in the common and long-term interests of both countries, he said.

Germany is the second leg of the premier's tour of six European nations and the European Union headquarters. He has visited Bulgaria and will also travel on to Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy and Belgium.
