Offshore Oil Giant to Build China's Largest Fertilizer Plant
The China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) plans to invest three billion yuan to build the country's largest fertilizer plant in Dongfang City of Hainan Province, South China, and will put it into operation in late 2003.
The fertilizer plant is expected to produce 450,000 tons of synthetic ammonia and 800,000 tons of urea annually, according to a senior CNOOC official.
It will use gas to be turned out by the Dongfang 1-1 gas field in the South China Sea as raw material. The gas field is expected to start providing gas supply in September 2003.
The upstream gas field development and the downstream fertilizer plant construction will demand total investment of eight billion yuan, the official added.
