East China Province Draws More Overseas Funds

East China's Anhui Province, a major grain producer of the country, has used a growing amount of overseas investment this year.

Recent statistics show the province approved the establishment of 83 overseas-funded enterprises during the first five months of the year, with combined contractual overseas capital of US$ 76.52 million, jumping 172 percent.

These businesses are chiefly related with infrastructure, agriculture, information technology, and machinery.

An official with the Anhui Provincial Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Commission attributed the high growth to an improved investment environment in the province.

Anhui has issued a series of new policies to attract overseas business people since the beginning of last year, and they include measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of overseas investors.

Special centers have been established across the province to deal with complaints from overseas investors.

Last year saw the establishment of 199 overseas-funded businesses in the province, with a combined contractual overseas investment of US$ 360 million, a year-on-year increase of 31 percent.
