Vietnamese Leader Stresses Promotion of Vietnam-China TiesState President of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong Wednesday expressed his belief that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and China will further develop in the 21st century through the efforts of both sides.Luong made the remarks during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Li Jiazhong who will soon finish his term. During the Li's term of four and half years, the relationship between Vietnam and China has greatly developed, Luong said. General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Le Kha Phieu and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Jiang Zemin had met in February, 1999, setting the framework of "long-term, stable and good-neighborly relations with comprehensive cooperation oriented to the future" for developing relations between the two parties and two countries, he added. Luong noted that signing the Treaty of Land Border between the two countries at the end of last year was the important event in the relations between the two countries. Both sides will continuously strive to solve the problem of Bei Bu Gulf demarcation and promote further development of the two countries' economic, trade and cultural relations. The Vietnamese President expressed this belief that under the guidance of the framework for developing relations between the two parties and two countries set by the two party leaders and through the efforts of both sides, the friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and China will further develop in the 21st century.
