Vice-Premier Meets HK Delegation

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met Wednesday with a delegation of the Chinese History and Culture Educational Foundation For Youth from Hong Kong.

Qian expressed his hope that young people in Hong Kong can learn more about Chinese history and culture and make contributions to the revitalization of the Chinese nation and the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.

The vice-premier said that Chinese people should carry forward their own splendid history and culture while learning from advanced science and technology of the world and cultures of other nations.

It is significant for Hong Kong compatriots, who are members of the big family of the motherland, to get acquainted with the history and culture of their own motherland and raise the national self-confidence and sense of social responsibility, Qian said.

He said that experiences have shown that the "one country, two systems" principle is correct and can be realized. Since Hong Kong 's return to the motherland three years ago, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has reduced the effects of the Asia financial crisis and its economy is recovering and developing.

The delegation, comprising 1,000 teachers, students, and other people, arrived in Beijing on Monday. The group is scheduled to visit 22 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in the coming days.
