Locust Plague in North China's Hebei Province Under Control

Locust plagues in north China 's Hebei Province are now under control. Over 200,000 hectares of crops in the province have been hit by locusts since the dry spring season this year.

The province launched a campaign to eradicate the locusts since May and efforts have been successful, according to sources with the provincial bureau of agriculture.

The locusts have not caused heavy losses to grain output in the province.

Many places across the country, especially in the dry north, have reported plagues of locust this year. The "oriental grasshopper" has destroyed 215,300 hectares of crops in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the northwest, and devastated up to 1.69 million hectares of crops nationwide.
