Fair Highlights Military Technology

The China International Defense Electronics Exhibition 2000 opened yesterday in Beijing.

The show, which runs until Friday in the International Exhibition Center, features more than 200 exhibitors from a dozen countries including China, Britain, the United States, France and Israel.

It presents a series of modern military electronic products that range from telecommunications, command and control systems, avionics, radar systems to e-war facilities.

This is the second time China has hosted such an exhibition. The first was in 1998, when more than 130 intentional agreements were signed.

"Many foreign defense electronics producers are looking for opportunities to enter the Chinese market," said Qian Meiyuan, general manager of China National Electronics Import/Export Corp, the organizer of the exhibition.

"We hope the show can provide them with better communication with domestic enterprises, who are also seeking technical assistance from abroad," Qian said.

"We are making better contact with our old friends here this year," said Arlene Meadows, International Business Manager of the British Racal Instruments, Inc, who attended the first show two years ago.

Other big names attracted to Beijing include Germany's Rohde & Schwarz, Teradyne from the US, Alcatel from France and the Israeli defens industry hub SIBAT.
