Shanghai Increases Emergency Treatment Capability
The computerized Shanghai Emergency Center building today was put into service in an effort to promote the city's ability to deal with emergency situations.
The new center will have 14 branches in the city, equipped with about 200 well-trained staff and 26 ambulances, in which rescue treatment can be carried out.
Zhong Houde, chief of the center, said that Shanghai's ability to handle emergencies is still far below standard due to the city' s rapid development, heavy traffic and poorly-trained staff. The center will recruit well-educated professionals and purchase 30 ambulances in the coming three years.
Statistics from the city show that with a population of about 13 million, Shanghai has to treat at least 120,000 cases of emergency annually.
