Yellow River to Benefit from Silt Control Project
A silt control project in the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River, China's second longest river, has resulted in 11.7 million hectares of trees and grass.
The project initiated in 1997 aiming to curb soil erosion in some areas. Up to date nearly 9.2 million hectares of trees have been planted. Another 2.5 million hectares of land have been turned into grass.
The 5,464-kilometer-long River deposits 1.6 billion tons of silt annually.
