Living Cost of Hong Kong Ranks Third in World

According to a survey conducted by a British industrial and commercial consultative company, among 146 global cities, the first three cities with the highest living expenses are Tokyo, Osaka and Hong Kong, in the EU area, London's living cost is the highest, ranking 10th in the world and Taipei, 11th, even higher than New York.

The survey was conducted on over 200 items, including housing price, food, clothes, daily necessities, transportation and recreation. An index was set on the basis of the 100 points of New York to make a comparison between each city.

The survey shows that the cities with the highest living expenses are Tokyo, Osaka and Hong Kong. The remaining cities of the top 10 are Beijing, Moscow, Shanghai, Seoul, St. Petersburg of Russia, Guangzhou and London. The index of Tokyo is 164.9, five times higher than the index (32.1) of Quito, capital of Ecuador. New York, taken as the base for the comparison, ranks 13. The survey reveals that Australian cities enjoy a life of high quality but the lowest cost.
