NPC Chairman Concludes Six-nation Tour

Top Chinese legislator Li Peng has concluded his visit to the Ukraine and left Kiev for home.

This wraps up his six-nation tour which has also taken him to Yugoslavia, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, Azerbaijan.

During talks with the Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma in Kiev Monday, Li Peng said the friendly cooperation between China and the Ukraine is based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and has great prospect for development.

He added that the two countries should develop bilateral relations from a long-term and strategic view point in the 21st century.

President Kuchma agrees that it is of great importance to develop bilateral relations in the changing international situation.

Also on Monday, Li Peng held seperate talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Chairman of the Ukraine Supreme Council, Ivan Plyushch, and the Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yushchenko.
