Outstanding CPC Members And Party Organizations Cited in Beijing
A meeting was held Monday in Beijing to cite the outstanding Communist Party of China ( CPC) members and Party organizations in government institutions on the eve of the 79th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

Hu Jintao, Chinese Vice President and Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, and Vice Premier Li Lanqing, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau, attended the meeting.

Hu congratulated the honored party units and members on behalf of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council, China's highest governing body.

He praised the roles play by party members and organizations at government institutions in ensuring the smooth operation of the State Council's institutional reform, as well as the achievements scored in studying Chinese President Jiang Zemin's instruction on the Party's role.

Jiang's instruction says that the Communist Party represents the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

Hu urged Party organizations at the government institutions to focus attention on party building and serve the people wholeheartedly.

At the meeting, 223 outstanding Party members and units were awarded medals and certificates.

In another development, Wei Jianxing, Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau and president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), today also urged trade unions members at all levels to study Jiang's instructions.

Wei made the call at a meeting of the presidium of the ACFTU which opened here today.

He noted that Jiang's instruction is very important for strengthening party building under the new historical conditions, adding that the trade unions should grasp the opportunity to make breakthrough in establishing trade unions in new enterprises.
