French air traffic controllers went on strike Monday to protest privatization, paralyzing flights in and out of France and affecting all of the country's airlines and airports. Up to 90% of flights were expected to be canceled at the height of the 24-hour strike, according to the General Direction for Civil Aviation. On an average Monday, there are about 7,500-7,600 flights in France. The state-run train authority said it provided 5,000 extra seats over the weekend to help compensate for canceled flights between Paris and major French and other European cities.
