China, Spain Vow to Expand Economic Cooperation

Visiting Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar said in Beijing Monday that the Spanish government will spare no efforts to support its enterprises to develop economic cooperation with China.

The prime minister made the remark in a speech on Monday at the closing ceremony of the Sino-Spanish Entrepreneurs Seminar.

Aznar spoke highly of China's achievements in economic construction. He said that he believes China will play an even bigger role in international economic affairs after its entry to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo briefed the participants on China's economic situation.

Wu said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to developing long-term, stable and friendly relations with Spain.

In recent years, the two countries have made achievements in bilateral cooperation in various fields, said Wu, adding that there is still great potential in bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

Wu urged entrepreneurs from the two countries to explore new ways and areas for economic and trade cooperation.

He said that China welcomes more investment from Spain and Spain's participation in developing China's western regions.
