Israeli President in Cairo for "Farewell" Meeting with Mubarak

Israeli President Ezer Weizman arrived on Sunday for what has been termed as a "farewell" meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak before his July retirement for corruption allegations.

Mubarak led senior officials to greet Weizman upon his arrival at Cairo International Airport.

The two presidents will hold talks on the latest developments of the Middle East peace process, especially on the Palestinian-Israeli track, Egypt's official Middle East News Agency said.

Weizman is to step down on July 10, three years ahead of schedule, after narrowly escaping prosecution on allegations of corruption and tax fraud.

Weizman is reportedly to use the meeting with Mubarak to plead for the release of Azzam Azzam, an Israeli Druze sentenced to 15-year imprisonment by an Egyptian court in 1997 for spying for Israel.
