China to Develop Mini Satellites

China has dedicated itself to developing mini satellites, a new field in world satellite development.

Approved by the State Administration of Industry and Commerce, the Aerospace Tsinghua Satellite Technology Co. Ltd, co-funded by China Aerospace Machinery and Electronics Corporation, Tsinghua University Enterprise Group, Tsinghua Tongfang Co. Ltd, has been set up lately in Beijing. China has for the first time set up such an economic entity in aerospace field by combining its high-tech enterprise with famous university in the way of pooling in assets and technology.

As reported the newly-established company will throw itself into research and development in mini satellites and space detectors to meet market needs and aerospace technology development. Its cooperation with Aerospace Solid Rocket Co. Ltd will help perfect China's space observation ability in case of emergency and open up a new path for aerospace technology development and for developing new space products.

At present, international commercial satellites are developing in dual ways: one is for large satellite which weighs a number of tons, the other is mini satellite which has only several hundred or dozens or even a couple of kg, featuring the low cost, short period of manufacturing, diversified uses and flexibility in launching. Mini satellites will play a special role in technology innovation, scientific experiment, general survey of resources, mapping and exploration fields and even to play a unique role in unexpected accidents at home and in adjacent areas.
