China's Steel Production Keeps Growing

China witnessed a steady growth of steel production in the first four months this year, with the output increasing 2.9 percent year-on-year to 40.03 million tons, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The output of steel products hit 40.17 million tons in the four months, up 8.6 percent on an annual basis.

The production of large rolled steel surged 20.1 percent year on year to 446,600 tons, that of medium rolled steel edged up 1.1 percent to 1.51 million tons, and that of small rolled steel grew 2.3 percent to 9.87 million tons.

In the four months, China turned out a total of 8.51 million tons of wire rod, up two percent over the same period last year. The production of thin steel plate, during that period, soared 18. 6 percent to hit 6.41 million tons.

The four months also saw the production of pig iron grow by 9.9 percent to reach 41.72 million tons.
