China to Curb Pollution in Great Canal
The Hangzhou city government in east China's Zhejiang province will invest four billion yuan (480 million U.S. dollars) to curb pollution in the southernmost section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Great Canal.
The government has worked out a plan to curb pollution and remove unsightly buildings along a 18.1-km river section in Hangzhou, capital of the Province.
The river has been heavily pollution by industrial oil and garbage.
The 10-year project will be carried out in three phases. The 1,300-year-old and 1,794-km-long canal is the longest in the world.
