Information Equipment Industry Grows Fast in China

China's information equipment industry grew fast in the first four months of 2000, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The output of program-controlled switchboards surged 26.4 percent year-on-year to 15.12 million lines in the January-April period.

The production of optical communications equipment increased by 16.3 percent to 7,061 units, and that of carrier communications equipment grew 11.3 percent to 3,043 units.

In the four months, the output of computers registered a surge of 38.0 percent to 995 units while that of micro-computers soared 88.6 percent to 2.16 million.

At the same time, China produced 1.71 billion semiconductor integrated circuits, jumping 60.1 percent on an annual basis.

The production of mobile communications equipment fell a year-on-year 34.2 percent to 1.33 million sets.
