China's Investment up in First Four Months

Total investment in China hit 361.12 billion yuan (about 43.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the first four months this year, a year-on-year increase of 9.3 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The figure has not included investment by collectives and individuals in both urban and rural areas. Of the total, 199.25 billion yuan (about 24 billion U.S. dollars) went to capital construction projects, growing 4.7 percent, and 64.40 billion yuan (about 7.8 billion U.S. dollars) was used for technical upgrades, surging 15.8 percent.

In terms of regions, Guangdong Province, an economic powerhouse in south China, had the largest amount of investment of 50.9 billion yuan (about 6.1 billion U.S. dollars).

Northwest China's Gansu Province enjoyed the fastest increase among all provinces and autonomous regions, with its investment soaring 51.8 percent to 2.64 billion yuan (about 319 million U.S. dollars).
