HK's Chairman of Housing Authority Resigns

Rosanna Wong Yick-ming, chairman of the housing authority of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), announced her resignation on Saturday. Wong has served as Chairman of the Housing Authority for seven years.

According to a government press release on Friday, the Legislative Council will hold a meeting next Monday to debate a motion on vote of no confidence in the chairman of the Housing Authority and director of housing.

The motion states, "in view of the recent successive scandals on public housing involving substandard piling and construction works, this council has no confidence in the chairman of the housing authority and the director of housing."

HKSAR's Chief Executive, Tung Chee Hwa, said: "It is with reluctance that I have accepted her resignation, but I respect her personal decision."

"Pending the appointment of a new Chairman, I have asked Wong to stay on as Chairman up to the end of September in order to ensure a smooth transition," said Tung.

"I call on the Members of the Housing Authority to carry on the mission which they have initiated together with Wong, "said Tung.
