Enterprises in Coastal Areas Eyeing for Overseas Development

A large number of coastal enterprises in China by taking the initiative to step out of national gate are setting up factories abroad in the form of cooperative production with foreign enterprises or establishing R&D institutions overseas.

During recent years, more and more enterprises in coastal regions are establishing their own marketing networks or production bases abroad. With the quick increase in export and consolidation in strength, the Double Star Group Co. have set up overseas branches in succession in nine countries or regions such as US, Russia, with its products being distributed to over100 countries and regions. 200 clients have established trade partnership with it, thus winning with it a good reputation in the world.

Guangdong Kelong Group set up its office in Hong Kong as early as 1990 and has been doing overseas marketing through this window. Last year, it also established an assembling plant in Mauritius in Africa and developed refrigerator of tropical type, which is suitable for local hot weather by improving compressor and its component parts. They've become the only duty-free foreign enterprises in Mauritius.

To cooperate with transnational corporations is another way for coastal firms in the quest for overseas development. Since 1990s, Jinan Second Machine Tool Group have in succession tied up with eight corporations in US and Germany and achieved industrial upgrading by making use of foreign firms' marketing network and international reputation. They've developed thirty to forty new products every year, 90% of which are up to internationally advanced level. In recent years, this company has provided four punching lines with the highest international standard for General Motor's Assembling center in Thailand and GM Shanghai branch, setting precedence for the export of heavy and large-sized production equipment forged and manufactured in China. So far, this company has become a domestic enterprise in machine tool industry that have the widest range in types and models of products, the strongest one whose products are sold in over 40 countries and regions in the world.

Many enterprises have set up their own R&D institutions. Guangdong Glanz Group Co. for instance, it has invested 20 million dollars to set up R&D center in Seattle in USA for tracing the latest technology and products, and developing the new by making use of local advanced technology and technicians. At present, this center has developed 20 new types of microwaves such as voice-controlled microwave, long-distance-controlled and network microwave. Shenzhen Huawei Technology Co. has established 35 representative offices and joint ventures as well as large research institutes in Silicon Valley of US and in India with more than 400 people. Nowadays, their products have been distributed to 27 countries and regions in the world and established their own brand names with independent property rights.
