Spain's PM Leaves for China

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar left Saturday for an official visit to China.

Aznar said before his departure that the Spanish government " has a great interest in developing full relations with China," and stated his confidence in the success of his visit and its contribution to tightening the relations between both countries.

He said that he will meet with Chinese leaders to find ways to establish steady relations of cooperation on political, economic, and cultural matters, as well as in other fields such as investment and commerce.

Aznar will be accompanied in his China tour by Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Pique and over 50 officials, around 50 journalists, and some 200 businessmen.

The Spanish delegation will visit Tianjin, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, besides Beijing,

Aznar was reelected chief of the Spanish government in March. China is one of the first countries he is visiting after his reelection.

After his visit to China on June 29, he is scheduled to visit the Philippines.
