WTO Reports Multilateral Process in China's WTO Entry

Important progress has been made in the multilateral process of China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), said Jean Pierre Girard, chairman of the WTO Working Party on China, on Friday

During its discussions on June 19-23, the 10th meeting of the Working Party on China "made important progress on the draft protocol, the draft report of the Working Party and the protocol annexes", Girard told reporters at a press briefing.

"The discussions during this session of the Working Party have shown a strong desire of all concerned to make rapid progress toward concluding China's accession negotiations as soon as possible."

China has concluded market-access accords with 32 out of the 37 TWO members originally expressing interest in negotiating market- access in goods and services, according to Girard. He expected that the remaining handful of bilateral market-access discussions could be wrapped up in the coming weeks.

The chairman announced that the Working Party will meet again during the second half of July and once again most probably in September.
