He quoted local officials as saying the ship was carrying 221 people when the accident occurred in turbulent waters when it headed for a local trade fair in Hejiang Country, Sichuan Province. Officials said 17 passengers have been confirmed dead and their bodies have been found. Still, some 110 are missing, according to the governments of the Luzhou City and Hejiang County. Rescue work continued after daybreak early Saturday, and the cause of the accident is under investigation. |
