China to Build Flood Control Model with WB Loans

China will use 9.7 million US dollars of loan from the World Bank (WB) to build a flood control model on the Yangtze River.

The model will include the models for the study of the 400-km-long course of the river from Zhicheng to Luoshan on the mainstream of the Yangtze, and of the Dongting Lake area, the erection of two hangars for experiments, and the construction of ancillary institutions.

Representatives from China and the WB held technical negotiations last May on the loan to reinforce the Yangtze River embankments and to build the flood control model, said Wu Zhiguang, deputy-president of the Yangtze River Academy, an organization affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources.
