Nation Steps up Piracy Fight

China officials asked for copyright-busting co-operation yesterday from the few developed countries responsible for the raw materials and production means for audio and video discs, China Daily reported on June 23.

Officials also reviewed their work in stopping disc piracy at home.

Businesses that sell the means and materials to make CDs, VCDs or DVDs should ask whether their Chinese clients have government licenses to produce audio and video discs, Yu Youxian, director of the State Copyright Bureau, suggested at a press conference.

Underground disc producers in the mainland may even get technical guidance from disc-related exporters.

"We wish these few countries would join us in this fight against copyright piracy," said Yu, also vice-chairman of the National Anti-Piracy and Pornography Working Committee.
