Chinese Army to Foster Officers in UniversitiesChina recently regrouped its military officer training system by ordering non-military universities and colleges to offer courses on technology that are suited to both military and civil purposes.The State Council and Central Military Commission recently issued a "Decision on the Setting-up of the System to Foster Army Officers by Relying on Higher Learning Institutions". The move is hailed as a major reform of the armed forces' officer training system designed to produce high-quality military professionals for the country's national defense and military modernization drive. According to the decision, reserve officer training and selection offices will be set up in a number of non-military schools across the country to coordinate training and selection. Pilot programs for the training reform, which were launched in Beijing University and Qinghua University, were expanded to 22 non-military schools with remarkable results. |
