Tibetan Culture FlourishesTibetan culture is thriving, said the Information Office of the State Council in a White Paper released in Beijing titled, "The Development of Tibetan Culture."The paper refutes claims by some followers of the Dalai Lama who said Tibetan culture has become extinct. The White Paper focuses on the tremendous development of the fine aspects of traditional culture while retaining ethnic characteristics since the peaceful liberation of Tibet in 1951, especially since the Democratic Reform in 1959. The White Paper, written in 12,000 Chinese characters, includes a foreword and seven chapters, elaborating on how the Tibetan language has been studied, used and developed, how cultural relics and ancient books in Tibet have been preserved and protected, how Tibetan folk customs and freedom of religious beliefs have been respected and protected and how Tibetan culture and art have been developed. The White Paper concludes that, "Tibet is striding toward modernization and globalization with a completely new shape, and new and still greater development will certainly be achieved in Tibetan culture in this process." And "what the Dalai Lama followers are aiming at is nothing but hampering the real development of Tibetan culture."
