China, Biggest Victim of Pirated CDs

China has become the biggest victim of pirated CDs when we strike hard on CD smuggling and porn illegal publishing, deplored a senior Chinese official Thursday.

Gui Xiaofeng, deputy director of Press and Publication Administration, made the remarks when telling a press conference about China's crackdown on porn illegal publications.

He said that 70 percent of pirated CDs plaguing China has all been "foreign goods" smuggled in. A fact to be noted, he reminded, is that the number of illegal CD product processing lines is near to none in China and these illegal lines can be soon be discovered with countermeasures having been adopted by our government.

The past eleven years have witnessed great success since China started to wage a war against porn illegal publications. HKSAR and Macao have also won much success in fighting illegal production and smuggling of pirated CDs and porn illegal publishing, and on the mainland of China there is already a unified administrative setup to deal effectively with any smuggling or piracy, the official said.

But Gui said striking international piracy is a thorny problem facing the whole international community and needs strengthened international cooperation. The Chinese government is willing to make concerted effort to cooperate with other related countries in putting a complete stop to all possible smuggling of pirated CDs and porno illegal publishing for protection of the lawful rights of intellectual property.
