British Deputy PM Meets Chinese Vice Premier

British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott held talks Thursday with Chinese Vice Premier Wen Jiabao and they discussed ways to enhancing bilateral ties.

The Chinese vice premier said the development of China-UK relations has entered a new stage. He believed that based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and maintaining the current good trend of development, the China-UK friendly and cooperative ties can surely be further enhanced.

Prescott said Britain attaches importance to developing relations with China. He said the Chinese vice premier's current visit has deepened the mutual understanding between the countries and enhanced bilateral friendly ties.

He noted that Britain is willing to participate in the large- scale development of China's west.

The Chinese vice premier, who arrived here Tuesday for a six- day official visit, also met with British Agricultural Secretary Nick Brown Thursday.
