Literature and Art Prosperity of West China Be Put in Top Place: Ministry of Culture
Vice-Minister of Culture Pan Zhenzhou recently stressed that creating a prosperous literature and art of west China should be placed in an important position, and local governments across China should organize writers and artists to plunge themselves into the thick of life and create a batch of excellent works of art that display their own characteristics and reflect the great practice of western region development. Pan made the remarks at the 2000 National Art Creation Conference recently held in Chongqing.
Pan said that the development of west China has exerted many-sided influence on the cultural undertaking, and the development of the said undertaking should be incorporated in the overall strategy for western region development.
In regard to integration of literature and art creation with the development of west China, Pan said that various localities in west China should, in accordance with different regional, cultural and nationality characteristics, work out development plans and measures for their cultural undertaking including artistic creation to draw the participation of talents in the development of local culture.
He also said that it is necessary to inspect and improve the quality of artistic works in the course of opening up the market. The real value of artistic works lies in the relations of real life, not in the history of art.
Artistic works should have marketing effect.
