Over Hundred Japanese Explosives Dug out in NE China
More than one hundred explosives believed to be left over by Japanese aggressor troops were unearthed in Benxi, Liaoning Province in northeast China early this month.
Local archives show that during the war of resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), Japanese troops used to have their barracks and magazine on the site.
Over two days, seven bombs, 56 cannonballs, and about 50 land mines and grenades were found. They were identified to be made in Japan in 1938. The explosive capacity was equal to 2,000 kg of TNT, said local police.
Since 1980, at least five local residents have been wounded by buried explosives while ploughing.
Police have closed the surrounding area in case other possible explosives may still be buried underground.
