China Mobile Communication Industry Growth Rate Ranks First in the World

As informed from the China International Communication Exhibition 2000 and the 14th Communication Products Fair opened in Shanghai Thursday, China's mobile communication market has become one of the most active fields in China's national economy.

In 1999, the mobile users in China increased by 17.96 million, making the total of 43 million in number and this year sees the continuity of its development. Up to now, the figure has exceeded 50 million and is expected to reach 70 million by the end of year, hitting the fastest growth rate in the world.

The incessant release of potentials in China's mobile communication market has attracted numerous transnational corporations in IT industry to scramble for this huge market and this has vigorously promoted the growth of national communication industry. Represented by Julong, Datang, Zhongxing, Huawei, Shouxing, Dongxing, Putian, a group of key communication enterprises of considerable scale and with high technical level have risen quickly. Among them, China Putian Information Industry Group Co. with assets totaling 20 billion-yuan ranks the 20th in the 50 top giants of telecommunication equipment manufacturers in the world. Since its establishment six years ago, China Unicom has introduced competition mechanism into the telecommunication field and registered an impressively high speed of growth. By the end of last May, the digital mobile network of China Unicom had been in operation in 230 cities with its users outstripping 10 million, and its new market share reaching 32.5%. The business developed by China Unicom such as making IP calls by using 130 mobile, connecting to Internet by using mobile phones are widely appreciated by consumers.
