Grassroots Courts in China Urged to Ensure JusticeLu Gan, a senior Party official in charge of legal construction in China, said Thursday that grassroots courts must ensure that justice prevails."The people's courts at various levels should put justice above everything else," said Luo, secretary of the Committee of Political Science and Law Under the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee, at a national conference on court work. Luo is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. He said that courts should provide judicial guarantees and legal services for the development of China's social productive forces, and for the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people. Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee, courts across the country have made steady progress in enhancing professional quality over the years, he said. However, corruptive practices exist among some court employees, and violations against the law take place from time to time, undermining the reputation of courts and judges and tarnishing the image of the Party and government, he said. "The Party should strengthen its leadership role over court work, and support the independent judicial power of courts and judging panels," he said.
