SW China City to Have More Foreign Missions

Chongqing, the largest city in China's southwest, is expected to have more consulates from developed countries.

The newspaper said that as more multinational companies eye China's western regions as a potential market, their governments plan to establish consulates there.

Among big cities in the west, Chongqing Municipality is the most favored choice. Japan and Canada already have consulates in the city and Britain set up the consulate earlier this year. Germany and Australia and other countries have shown interest in opening their diplomatic offices in China's western regions, said the newspaper.

Chen Xiao, director with the Chongqing's Foreign Affairs Office, said that the city, located between affluent east China and resource-rich west China, will help foreign missions serve to expand businesses in western areas.
