Two Beijing Universities Merged

A new university formed through the merging of the University of International Business and Economics and China Institute of Banking was formally opened in Beijing Wednesday.

The new University of International Business and Economics will specialize in economics, trade, finance, administration, foreign languages and law.

The merger was approved by the Ministry of Education and the new school will operate directly under the ministry.

The merging strategy is part of the nationwide reform of the educational system meant to upgrade Chinese universities by tapping into the advantages of different higher-educational institutions, said ministry officials.
