Confusing the Nature of War Is Blocking National Reunification

A certain person has lately tried his utmost to turn things upside down in his policy utterances made in Taiwan. He makes his policy representations in such a sanctimonious blurry way that "as long as the CPC regime has no intention to use military force against Taiwan" he will honor his five "pledges".

He spells out his "pledges" as during his term in office he will not declare Taiwan "independence", not change Taiwan's "national title", not push for Lee Teng-hui's "state-to-state" fallacy and not bring up a plebiscite in regards to the question of Taiwan "independence" or reunification. Meanwhile this person did not hesitate to blast "the history of the 20th century" as one that "left us with a major lesson - that war is a failure of humanity waged for whatever purpose or whatever imperious reasons, war is the greatest harm to freedom, democracy and human rights". But where were and are all the evils and wickedness of wars spread by those of human dregs as are known in life and history, he has fully evaded.

Also with whom and what purpose has that person made his policy representations for? Just a year ago, when US-led NATO went all out in a frenzied bombing attack on Yugoslavia under the banner of "freedom, democracy, human rights" people throughout the world had just heard a different tone piped by some other leading personages like that person in Taiwan. With different policy utterances made from those in other Asian countries they hailed US-led NATO's bombing and savagery in Yugoslavia. As things stand in today's world, the last few years have already seen too many airstrikes and a 400-fold increase of war flights and bombing by US fighters and bombers spreading worldwide holocaust. But these have all just been ignored by that person in his policy representations and his company in Taiwan and hailed as acts safeguarding world civilization. It goes without saying this is natural for such a pack of people trying the risk for "Taiwan independence" to sound salute for US-led NATO and other Western powers' inhuman deeds and wars in Yugoslavia and other parts of the world.

That troublemaker like Lee Teng-hui and his cohorts in Taiwan must have also been excluded by standards of that person's policy utterances in Taiwan, without doubt. Ignoring all mainland efforts for more economic ties and improved cross-Straits relations to be developed and cross-Straits talks to be held, Lee and his ilk in Taiwan have never given up their plots to form an allied force with other alien forces to bring a joint attack on the motherland. They can never get away from the dream of weakening the country by splitting it up into seven territorial pieces to rule. Since Lee mouthed "state-to-state" fallacy his followers had become almost frantic with all possible wild ideas to have a meek broken China to fall prey to Oriental and Western powers. They take their pride in the saying that "when should Taiwan lop missiles into Hong Kong or Shanghai the mainland would soon knuckle under". But wild dreams can by no means go otherwise and these have even been rejected by some old guard ranking KMT generals in Taiwan as a dream of taking war as "a trifling matter".

Since war maniacs spread war scourges throughout the world and troublemakers like Lee Teng-hui regarding war as "a trifling matter" are not included in that person's policy utterances, then what people on earth could be targeted at by that person's representations made in Taiwan?

Certainly there are the numerous Chinese compatriots on the mainland of the motherland according to that person's policy utterances made in Taiwan for they have in the past several decades made a tenacious effort on their part to work for cross-Straits peace, cross-Straits talks, cross-Straits exchanges and development of economy. Also, there is the great land of the Chinese nation, a land that has already had enough of war crimes and manslaughter and despoliation by Oriental and Western imperialist powers. Still, there is the PRC government for it insists and will never pull back on its "one-China" principle in a land rising as a great country with its sovereignty and territorial integrity being powerfully protected.

From that person's policy utterances in Taiwan people have been truly offered a thing of the most abnormal to mull at the turn of the century: Peace blasphemers can talk glibly about peace while war maniacs pose themselves as beings reviling at wars.

In the last hundred or so years there is not a country like China that has suffered the greatest humiliation, destruction and despoliation of wars at the hands of Oriental and Western powers in the world, as we have said. It is precisely because of this that the Chinese people cherish the deepest love for protecting peace and the country's stability, development and prosperity, not to say their unshakable confidence in the great future of the nation. As to the policy line of "one country, two systems" guiding China's reunification, when one should make a conscientious study and get at the root meaning of the policy, he may ask himself, are there any other countries in the world that have offered so magnanimous conditions for national unification?

The Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese people love peace, they detest and reject war. As represented by the policy of "one country, two systems", they have shown the greatest magnanimity for that pack of people opposing China's reunification and the deepest feeling for their compatriots in Taiwan. But magnanimity wins no hearts of those few opposing China's national reunification. A few in Taiwan have by their words and deeds shown that they will never forget to pour foul water to smear the "one country, two systems" policy line of the motherland. By castrating "one country, two systems" and "peaceful reunification", they see to it that "one country" is dropped, only with "two systems" and "peace" left when "reunification" is resisted and that "imminent armed threat from the mainland" and the "mainland going to launch attack on Taiwan" are widely spread.

But for having long suffered from too many disastrous wars and alien imperialist aggression in history the Chinese people have not the least interest in war. The thing lies in that ruling pack of people in Taiwan who are forcing the Chinese people ready to fight a war in defense of the motherland. And it is this pack of people who are doing every possible effort in doing away with various basic prerequisites for keeping peace and a calm life across the Taiwan Straits. This calls for full preparations that must be made for a fight to be carried out in protecting the country's unity since Taiwan is on the point of being split away and at a time when alien powers already have had a dirty hand in the country's internal affairs. This is a situation the Chinese people are facing, we must prepare to fight it out in order to win and rise to our feet as a great nation to stand among others of the world.

The Chinese people have not the least interest in fighting a war they do not want, nor will they brook their country to be split by a few in power in Taiwan. Territorial integrity and national sovereignty is the prerequisite for the existence of the Chinese nation. Say, a look into the history of various countries with an armed force specially built. Is it not just for guarding territorial integrity and national sovereignty that a force had first been built? History tells that there is not a nation or country that has allowed its dismemberment by other forces both from within or outside.

Take the US for instance, of which a fetish has already been made by that person who has sworn into office along with his cohorts in Taiwan. The year 1860 saw the US nearly on the brink of being broken up. In December the same year, South Carolina first announced its pullout as a federal state of the US. In January 1961, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana followed suit in declaring their withdrawal as federal states of US federation. These six states got united and together had a constitution of their own established, parliament formed, president elected, and declared the founding of Commonwealth of States of America (CSA). In May, Texas, Arkansas, Tennesse, North Carolina and Virgnia also withdrew from the US federation and joined in CSA. For a time, 11 southern states, about one fourth of USA's land and one third of its population were in a state of splitting away and rising a compact force under a new rising Commonwealth of States of America challenging the US federation.

Why has the US history not been rewritten at an earlier date and why CSA finally had to return to the embrace of US federation? It was precisely because of that famous civil war between South and North America, according to historians. President Abraham Lincoln did not hesitate in using war in protecting the unity of USA, a war "that will test whether our country or any others with the same ideal or goal can survive or stay for long".

The US south-north war had been fought 4 years and had brought highest cost to US federation in history. During the first and second world wars and the Korean War the US had suffered a mortality of 578,000 but against these were a total of 620,000 of mortality in the country's South-North war. When should such a great sacrifice have not been made in history where will be and what a place will be occupied by USA in today's world?

To keep 620,000 of life losses in memory, the US has since specially transplanted "Be loyal to the motherland and never break up" in transcending place overriding the country's oath taking before such epithets as "freedom" and "justice" though it has long and widely peddled.

Back in history, why must an inter-US war in the way Americans fought their compatriots be launched? The answer is simple as it underlies the inevitability of a war for a number of Americans occupying a part of the country's land had sought to break away from the American nation. When comparing that person's policy utterances made on war in Taiwan, the war has brought not "the greatest harm to freedom, democracy and human rights" but led to the final rise of the whole American people to fight courageously for protecting their unity, national interest and national development.

What has applied to the US in history must also apply to us, without doubt. We often say we Chinese do not want to fight Chinese but the prerequisite must be no betrayal of national interest by those against their compatriots, all Chinese should first admit they were born Chinese, Chinese should in no way betray national interests of their compatriots. The great precursor of Chinese revolution Sun Yat-sun said, "China is a unified country and this has already solidly been kept in the historical consciousness of the Chinese nation and it is this consciousness that has enabled this nation to survive through the history."

When that leading pack of people stand in salute before the portrait of Dr Sun Yat-san they should know all grave consequences from crimes of national betrayal they are going to commit. They must come to their right senses that it would be sheer illusion for paying no heed to this historical consciousness of the Chinese nation and that they can in no way get scotch free for their national splittism in Taiwan. The Chinese people are ready to stand the highest price for protection of this historical consciousness. When that leading pack of people should try splittism in Taiwan, war will not be merely a test of our means but will also be a test of our will to show that whether we have enough courage and resolution to combat all divisive forces in splitting up the nation. This is not just a struggle of different partisans or a fight to be conducted for a certain "ism" or system but serious struggle to fight for the fundamental interest, future and development of the nation.

The one-China principle forms the basis and prerequisite for China's peaceful reunification. Things with regard to our sincerity for peaceful reunification are all above board. All past practice centering on Taiwan problem over the years tells that no peace can be obtained in an illusory way especially when a complicated situation is being developed involving meddling of foreign forces in the country's internal affairs from abroad. We have all along made an active sincere effort for China's peaceful reunification but that person in power tries to carry on with his policy utterances and dark deeds to plot for Taiwan independence. Since things give no other way out we should make up the greatest determination to carry out the fight through to the end.

In China, people all know what arduous course we Chinese people have traversed in winning such a fine situation for peaceful development in this country. We will continue our effort to work for peaceful reunification except an impossible situation arises to force us to use force. "All weaponry must be used to a lethal purpose when necessary" is a common sense to all military strategists. War provocateurs must be held for all possible war responsibilities and ill consequences to be brought about.

People also know in China that we will not show the least hesitation to raise our iron fist to crush all splittist forces at a critical moment when long-term cross-Straits national interest is to be endangered. As an armed force of the Chinese people, we, the Chinese People's Liberation Army has the resolution, confidence and the ability to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity and realize national reunification of the motherland.
