World-Renowned Photojournalism Show Opens in Beijing
A total of 195 prize-winning press photos selected from a world-renowned photojournalism competition debut in Beijing on June 21 to Chinese viewers.
The winning photos of the 43rd World Press Photo Competition, an annual event organized by the Netherlands-based World Press Photo Foundation (WPPF), were chosen from among 42,215 shots submitted by 3,981 photojournalists from 122 countries.
The pictures cover a wide-range of topics, including the Kosovo crisis, peace talks between Britain and Northern Ireland, refugees in Angola and Rwanda as well as changes in the areas of science and technology, human being and environment and arts and society.
Chinese photographer Wang Yao took a first prize in the arts category of the competition this year.
The exhibition will last until July 2 and then travel to Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong Province, according to the China Photographers Association, which co- organized the event together with WPPF and the Dutch Embassy in Beijing.
