Vice Premier on Development of China's Underdeveloped AreasThis year's assignment in project to develop China's massive western region is to work out a general plan and policies and accelerate the construction of infrastructure, Vice Premier Li Lanqing said Wednesday.Vice Premier Li Lanqing, entrusted by Premier Zhu Rongji, made the remarks here today in a report to the 10th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee. The meeting was presided over by Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau. Vice Premier Li's speech focused on three issues, namely the basic situation of regional development in China, the importance of the western development plan, and how to carry out the strategy. The vice premier, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, urged the CPPCC to organize and guide its members to contribute their wisdom and strength to the project. |
