Five Principles Governing China's Trademark International ProtectionTrademark international protection should follow five principles, said vice-director of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce Bai Dahua at a symposium of WIPO Asian Region Trademark International Protection.Trademark international protection should suit the development of world economy and progress of humankind. The starting point and final goal is to safeguard world economic order, promote development of the world economy, protect productive forces represented by trademarks and promote progress of human society. Trademark international protection should be in accord with the development level of every country. Difficulties will arise if protection is much more developed than economy; on the contrary, the function of trademark can not be given a full part to play and it may even be in a way to hold back economic development. We should seek a harmonious coordinated development of various types of international economy. On one hand, a balance of interests by different countries should be sought so that every country is enabled to win new economic achievements and social progress. On the other hand, developed countries should make every effort to help developing and underdeveloped countries to increase their home demand for trademark protection. We should promote international trademark protection in a practical, constructive manner. First, communications and exchanges among different countries in the field of trademark should be strengthened to study new problems and be made timely clear about how things are going in the world. Second, active conversations of common concern and interests should be held, and agreement reached. We should give full play to WIPO's function as the core of coordination. WIPO is playing an important role in balancing the relations and interests of different countries fairly and comprehensively. |
