France, Russia Sign Accord on Nuclear Equipment, Technology Safety

France and Russia signed in Paris Tuesday an agreement on guaranteeing judicially the safety of French equipment and technology to be used by Russian nuclear centers, said the Russian embassy in Paris.

Russian Minister of Atomic Energy Yvegeny Adamov and French State Secretary of Industry Christian Pierret signed the agreement, which will let France sell Russia nuclear equipment and technology.

The agreement is also aimed at helping Russia improve security of its nuclear centers, to modernize the process of recycling nuclear fuels and to better dispose radio-active materials, said French and Russian officials.

Russia is also considering building a new nuclear center with a European Pressurized Water Reactor to be produced with French and German technologies.

The Russian Ministry of Atomic Energy and the country's Commission of Atomic Energy will make a joint study of feasibility on the project next month, said Adamov.
