Chinese Leaders Wish for Slovak President's Early Recovery

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, Tuesday expressed, on behalf of Chinese President Jiang Zemin and in his own name, sincere regards to Slovak President Rudolf Schuster and their wishes for the president's early recovery from illness.

Li is on an official goodwill visit to Slovakia.

At the knowledge of Schuster's illness, Li and his wife Zhu Lin Monday asked Chinese Ambassador to Slovakia Yuan Guisen to go to hospital to present Schuster with a basket of flowers on their behalf.

During the talks between Li and Slovak National Council Chairman Jozef Migas Tuesday, Migas expressed the Slovak side's regret to Li for President Schuster's being unable to meet Li because of illness. He said the president was looking forward to the arrival of the distinguished Chinese guests and was scheduled to hold talks with Li Tuesday, but he was hospitalized to receive an emergency operation early Monday morning.

He said the president and his family thanked Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Li for their regards. The Slovak president warmly welcomes Li and his wife Zhu Lin to visit Slovakia and is very delighted to see the growth of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, Migas added.

The Slovak president believes bilateral cooperation in various areas will continue to grow, Migas said.

He also conveyed the president's wish for the success of Li's visit and for the happiness of the Chinese people.

Li asked Migas to tell President Schuster that China and Slovakia share common interests in many fields, and satisfactory development has been achieved in friendly cooperation between the two countries in various fields. Li said he hopes his current visit will promote the growth of bilateral relations. The Chinese side speaks highly of President Schuster's contribution to expanding Sino-Slovak relations, he added.
