N.Korea Seeks $250 Million to Aviod New Food Crisis

North Korea is seeking 250 million U.S. dollars to aviod a new food crisis.

In a two-day meeting organized by the U.N. Development Program in Geneva, Pyongyang's Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Su Hon the foreign funds will help North Korea reach food self-sufficienty by 2000.

The meeting follows an historic summit between the leaders of North and South Korea last week.

It also comes after the U.S. announcement Monday that it will ease economic sanctions against North Korea after almost 50 years, allowing trade in most goods.

North Korea reported earlier that drought had struck again, devastating spring crops of rice and maize.
