CAS Promotes Xinjiang's Development

The Chinese Academy of Sciences ( CAS) will further its cooperation with the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to promote the development of the country's vast western regions, said CAS Vice-President Chen Yiyu on June 20.

Chen made the remarks at a signing ceremony between the Agricultural Hi-Tech Industrialization Center under CAS and the Tunhe Group of Xinjiang.

Rich in natural resources, Xinjiang has great potential for development. It is also one of the key regions that have been included in CAS's campaign to promote and develop China's western regions.

The agreement signed on June 20 marks a new stage in CAS's cooperation with the western regions, the CAS vice-president said.

CAS's sciences and technologies will be integrated more closely with the west's resources and capital, Chen added.

The CAS-Tunhe cooperation covers mainly health-promoting foods, bio-pesticides, new fertilizers, new agricultural materials, processing of agricultural products and information-based agriculture.
