The 2000 China and Japan Economic Cooperation Meeting opened Wednesday in Shenyang, the provincial capital of Northeast China's Liaoning Province.
During the two-day event, government officials and businessmen from the two countries will discussion bilateral cooperation in the fields of State-owned enterprise reform, high-tech industries, environmental protection and tourism. Their talks will focus on the development of northeastern China, the country's old heavy industrial base.
The meeting is co-sponsored by the Japan-China Northeast Development Association of Japan and the Liaoning People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
The Japan-China Northeast Development Association is a non-governmental organization whose members include 130 Japanese banks, securities companies, and trading firms. About 45 delegates from the organization attended the meeting.
